MyTelescope automatically calculates how brands, topics, and search terms increase or decrease interest.

  1. The trend change on Rising search terms widgets for each search term is calculated using a simple yet effective formula: Trend Change (%) = (End Volume - Initial Volume) / End Volume * 100. This calculation is applied across all periods.

Let's walk through an example calculation for a hypothetical search term over 1 year. Suppose the Initial Volume (1 year ago) was 10, and the End Volume (current) is 74,000. The trend change would be calculated as follows: [(74,000 - 10) / 10] * 100 = [73,990 / 10] * 100 = 7,399 * 100 = 739,900%. For easier readability in our platform, this is expressed as 739.9K%.

  2. For the trend calculation on MyTelescope Index we use a linear trend change formula, which incorporates timeline data. This approach considers the entire data set and accounts for fluctuations over time. It provides a more nuanced view of the overall direction and rate of change.
